About us

At Jill Gulotta Nutrition, our dietitians are passionate about helping women of all ages, including young adults, recover from eating disorders using a holistic, non-diet approach. We recognize the ways in which toxic diet culture infiltrates our thoughts, emotions, and behaviors, and we’re committed to helping you fight back.

We also know that eating disorders are so much more than what they look like on the surface. They’re not just about food and your body—your life experiences and deepest emotions play a huge part in your eating behaviors. In fact, studies show that people with eating disorders are much more likely to also have mood disorders like depression.

That’s why we take an in-depth, whole-person approach to treating eating disorders. By getting to the root of the issue and discovering what can nourish your body, mind, and spirit, we can help you make meaningful changes so you can thrive.

Eating disorders we treat

As registered dietitians, we’re qualified to provide eating disorder treatment for any and all clinically diagnosed eating disorders. Here are some examples of the kinds of issues we can help with.

Anorexia nervosa

People who struggle with anorexia nervosa (often referred to as simply “anorexia”) significantly restrict their food intake in pursuit of thinness. Common symptoms include weight loss (though people in larger bodies can also be affected by anorexia)and extreme fear around gaining weight, not eating or heavily restricting food intake, food rituals and rules such as creating a strict structure and schedule around eating.

Bulimia nervosa

Bulimia nervosa, or simply “bulimia,” is an eating disorder that involves episodes of binge eating followed by compensatory behaviors, like vomiting, fasting, or excessive exercise. Other symptoms include controlling behaviors around food, hoarding food in strange places, disappearing after eating, and more.

Binge eating disorder

As the name suggests, people with binge eating disorder (BED) also engage in episodes of binge eating. During these episodes, they eat faster than normal and eat until uncomfortably full. Afterward, they often experience feelings of guilt, shame and embarrassment. However, they don’t engage in compensatory behaviors like people with bulimia.

Orthorexia

While orthorexia isn’t a formal diagnosis, it’s a term that’s been used for decades to describe a preoccupation with “healthy” eating. People with orthorexia have rigid rules around what they can and can’t eat, and they become distressed when a “healthy” option isn’t available. Thoughts about living a “healthy” lifestyle take up so much brain space that their mental health is negatively impacted.

Disordered eating behaviors

Many women struggle with disruptive eating behaviors that don’t fit neatly into a category. Our dietitians can help anyone who wants to heal their relationship with food and learn to love their body, regardless of whether or not they have a clinically diagnosed eating disorder.
